About the DocEditor

I’m Dr Cathy Tingle, and I’m something of a hybrid. Although my doctoral thesis was in English literature, it was also about the history of psychology. I love academia and its lofty ideas but I also worked for ten years in communications in London. I am an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) but I also hold two postgraduate diplomas in marketing.
And this mix of knowledge and experience is why I’m a good editor. I’m as comfortable with business studies as theatre studies, with politics as law, with psychology as history. I can catch misspellings of both ‘Woyzeck’ and ‘Britney Spears’ – which I recently did in the same book, in fact.
I’ve copyedited more than 90 non-fiction books and I train others in copyediting. I’m also a proofreader, and my years of experience in marketing communications have made me a pretty nifty copywriter, too, when the need arises. I am a commissioning editor for the CIEP, which gives me an eye for the best content and how to present it.
I like to think that I do a great job with every text. But don’t take my word for it. Have a look at my testimonials.
